On the SF Gate - the Bay area's online paper that people can post comments on very easily - when Mr Laurent died I was re submerged into the average publics disdain & misconceptins of 'Fashion'. It was sahocking (again) to read the lack of knowledge about the Industry & the historical importance of clothing besides the Indu$try being the livliehood of millions of people & The Ouvre of design creativity.

If for nothing else I expected that Mr Joe bragging about flip flops & shorts with a hanes T being good enough would still have respect for a man that made billion of $$s for his company & was a household historical name. Plus I mentioned that yes his flip flops & Tshirts/shorts Were Designed! by someone & the more intelligent woman would NOT be impressed!

I was really upset at the disrespect shown by the average discount shoppers that think their taste is trendsetting~~~~~~~~

if you pick up the july l'official, which is a french fashion mag, it features YSL from 1959-2006, all shots from runway shows. amazing. i'm not a huge YSL fan, but to see the progression of work over the years and the stylistic thread running through all his design, is incredible. highly recommended.

My grandma recently sent me a clipping. It was a Yves Saint-Laurent ad from the 60s. I think it was the first time she had seen a black model in a fashion magazine and she cut it out, saved it, and now I have it. There was this great special on YSL on I believe the History channel, just this long interview with him. I was not a fan before but after watching it I fell in lobve with him. He so eloquently summed up what it is I love about fashion and my thoughts about designing.
